The semi-desert landscapes of the Karoo region in South Africa, has its own appeal. The vastness and silence touches one's soul. Branches from quiver trees that grow in the region were used by the Koi-San people to make quivers for their arrows. These trees are the silent ancients of these landscapes. They grow very slowly due to the climate, but some are hundreds of years old.
